The Health Policy Department trains and encourages people who are passionate about health by advancing their knowledge of health systems and the social, economic and political contexts in which they work.

• Alex Carter is a senior practical lecturer at LSE. He currently leads the first section on the NHS Digital Academy, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at educating IT professionals in the complexities of delivery of health and social care.

• The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is leading a £ 7.9 million study capacity building initiative and presenting much-needed data on dementia treatment in seven low- and middle-income nations.
• LSE Health has received the first big Big Data grant in Europe. As of January 2017, it will oversee 36 organizations with a combined budget of 7.2 million Euros in a public-private partnership.

9. Department of International Development 

The department is committed to recognizing poverty and late growth issues within local societies, as well as national and international political and economic structures.  

Faculty Accomplishments

• Tim Allen is Firoz Lalji Center's inaugural director for Africa. He is a Professor of Development Anthropology at LSE in the Department of International Trade. His publications include Poverty and Growth (Oxford University Press 1992, 2000), books on ethnic violence in Europe, media reporting of conflicts, ties between issues of culture and growth, mass migration in Africa, and the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda, etc.

Research accomplishments

• Professor David Keen collaborated with Dr. Ruben Anderson on a Foreign Policy article about how the emboldening authoritarian regimes of the EU, the US, and Australia exacerbate violence and corruption.

10. Department of International History

The department imparts teaching and does research on the international history of Britain. It also deals with the period ranging from the early modern era to the present day and analyzes the state of the world throughout the span.

• Marc David Baer, is the author of five books: The Glory of Islam, the winner of the Albert Hourani Award, the North American Middle East Studies Association, the Best Book in Middle East Studies, the Turkish as IV etc.

• The nearest collaborator is the Department of History at Columbia University in New York but there are also ties with George Washington University in Washington DC, Santa Barbara University of California, Peking University and Sciences Po in Paris.

Research accomplishments

• For his dissertation, "The Growth of Colonial Intelligence Networks in Singapore during the Great War, 1914-1918" (supervised by Dr Kirsten E. Schulze), Joshua Chee won a "Highly Commended" award from LSE Southeast Asia (SEAC).
• From Quills to Tweets, Professor Casey contributed a chapter on how America interacts about war and revolution, edited by Andrea J Dew, Marc A Genest, and SCM Paine (Georgetown University Press).

13. Marshall Institute

Marshall Institute focuses on using private action for public benefit. The institute seeks to channelize the efforts of philanthropic foundations, entrepreneurs, charitable organizations, and individuals to serve the public good.

• Professor Stephan Chambers, Director, and Research Professor wrote a frequent column on entrepreneurship for the Financial Times and was a special advisor to Larry Brilliant and Jeff Skoll at the Skoll Global Threats Fund in California in 2014. He teaches entrepreneurship, social enterprise, and corporate finance.
• Professor Nava Ashraf is a Director of Research and an economics professor. Her work appears in leading newspapers including the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

• Dr Audrey Alejandro, Assistant Professor of Qualitative Text Analysis at Methodology, has begun a new blog to support student learning, called 'The Methodological Artist' and the most recent post from Audrey is entitled 'What is analysis? Any tips for becoming "more critical". This post addresses the students 'issue of being told that their work is' too descriptive 'and defines research within the social sciences as the' elephant in the house.

• Professor Andrés Velasco, Dean of the School of Public Policy, has been an adviser to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and states, central banks and private companies around the world.
• Professor Tony Travers, Professor of Practice is chair of the study group British Government@LSE and a regular guest on The HotSeat, the video and podcast series of current affairs at the Department of State. He has also written numerous novels, most recently 'The Boroughs of London at 50'.

The Department has multidisciplinarity, and comparative approach and its unique strengths in criminology, education and migration, public policy behavior, NGOs and population change, and lifelong learning.

• Professor Anne West, Professor of Education Policy has been called as an expert witness to select parliamentary committees in the United Kingdom for inquiries into academies, school admissions and religious schools. She is currently a member of the French Ministry of Education's Conseil national d'évaluation du système scolaire (Cnesco) founded in 2014.
• Dr Kitty Stewart, Associate Professor is a member of Journal of Social Policy's editorial board. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Child Welfare Action Group and is Trustee of the Center for Education Policy.

• Dr. Leonidas Cheliotis receives the annual Mueller Award from the International Division of the American Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences for 'exceptional contributions to the field of comparative/international criminal justice'.

• Fabien Accominotti, Assistant professor first works as a principal investigator on a project of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, using the New York Philharmonic Archives to explain how cultural capital has developed as a source of social standing in the United States.
• Dr Mahvish Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Human Rights and Politics, was a journalist in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region covering military and insurgent activity and co-founded the bilingual Urdu / English magazine Tanqeed with Madiha Tahir.

Research Accomplishments

• Liene received the award for her essay "Embracing Austerity? An Ethnographic Viewpoint on the Embrace of Austerity Politics by the Latvian Public." The annual Vilis Vītols award is awarded to the author of the best article in a given year of the Baltic Studies Journal.
• Joanna Natasegara created the 2019 film 'The Edge of Democracy,' which discusses recent Brazilian politics.
