The University of Wollongong traces its roots back to the year 1951, when it was founded as a division of the New South Wales University of Technology. Later, in 1975, it came to be recognized as an independent and autonomous institution under the New South Wales parliament. Campus East could be a very favourable option because of its affordable rental prices. Located right beside the Wollongong mall, Marketview allows its students to enjoy life in the city. Students are free to cook their own meals and also has an abundance of cafes and restaurants surrounding it. The self-catered single hotel style room is available for $294 per week, and the premium one is available at $305 per week.
It is also fully catered with 19 meals per week, but the students are free to prepare snacks in the kitchenettes provided throughout the residence. The fully catered twin share room costs $231 per week, and the single share room costs $288 per week.
Postgraduate students, along with mature students who have their families living with them reside in Bangalay. It has a very favourable location, with lecture halls, uni health and fitness centre and the library located very close to it. Moreover, the University of Wollongong childcare centre is located right across the road. Rooms start at a price of $256 per week, and reach up to $420 per week.

The Wollongong campus is situated at the base of Mt. Keira, which is a few kilometers from the Wollongong CBD. University is located at a distance of 71 kms from the nearest major airport, Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. Three free shuttle buses bring a huge number of students and staff to the university everyday. Other than that, there are also other paid buses which connect the university with its students and staff residing around Wollongong.
The closest railway station to this university is the North Wollongong Station, on the South coast line. You can reach the campus either by walking, or by taking the free shuttle from the station.
