School of Environment, Science and Engineering
The school focuses on innovative ideas regarding global warming, salinity, sustainable agriculture and forestry. It keeps itself involved in research by maintaining links with research groups like Centre for Coastal Biogeochemistry Research, Marine Ecology Research Centre and the Forest Research Centre.
The marine students also get access to the National Marine Science Centre at Coffs Harbour. The school also provides its students with hands-on learning in living laboratories provided by World Heritage rainforests, subtropical forests and coastal and marine ecosystems.

Research - Some of the major research areas under this department are Energy harvesting and renewable and sustainable energy resources, Structural health monitoring, non-destructive evaluation, assessment, repair and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure; Smart materials, concrete technology and geopolymer concrete development, Chemistry of natural and engineered aquatic systems; Numerical modelling of biogeochemical processes in natural and engineered environments, Artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimisation modelling, etc.
