Purdue University provides scholarships for both international undergraduate and postgraduate students. Indian students applying for these scholarships must have maintained a minimum GPA as per the university norms in their previous academic studies.
Merit-Based Scholarships: For first-year international students, Purdue offers a range of merit-based scholarships. These are typically awarded based on a holistic review of the application, which includes academic performance, test scores, essays, and other supplemental materials. To be considered, you must submit a completed admission application by the early action deadline of November 1. No separate application is needed for these scholarships
Departmental Scholarships: Many Purdue departments offer additional scholarships based on specific criteria such as academic focus, financial need, or community involvement. After submitting the general admission application, you may also need to complete a Departmental Scholarship Application by February 2 to be considered for these awards. This application can be accessed through Purdue’s Scholarship Universe portal.
Need-Based Aid: While international students are not eligible for federal aid, some need-based scholarships may still be available through Purdue’s various colleges. You should explore these options directly with your department or through the Division of Financial Aid.
For most programs, international undergraduate applications are due by November 1 for Early Action, which also ensures scholarship consideration. For graduate programs, deadlines can vary, but priority is often given to applications submitted by December 1 for fall intake.
While need-based financial aid is typically not available to international students, Purdue offers merit-based scholarships for which international students may be eligible. Additionally, some departments offer scholarships specifically for their programs. International students can also explore private scholarships and loans that require a U.S. co-signer.
Once admitted, international students will receive an I-20 or DS-2019 form, depending on their visa type (F-1 or J-1), which they will need to apply for a student visa. This process includes paying the SEVIS fee, scheduling a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate, and presenting the required documents.
Purdue typically requires a GPA of around 3.0 or higher for graduate programs, though competitive applicants often have a higher GPA.
Purdue has a welcoming environment with numerous resources for international students, including support for visa processes, language assistance, and housing.
