The two campuses are about 20 miles from each other. Its primary campus is in downtown Montreal at Mount Royal. About one-fourth of the student body is international, with learners coming from over 150 nations. University accommodation is available in both the campuses for undergraduate and graduate students. The university is affiliated with various teaching hospitals, its medical school is the oldest in Canada.

Montreal is a big town in the southwest of Quebec's Canadian province. In 2012, QS University Rankings named Montreal as the 10th best location in the globe for a university student. McGill University has excellent airport connectivity on the highway from all sides. The nearest major airport is Montréal / Saint-Hubert Airport (YHU / CYHU), which is 18 km from McGill University and has national flights from Montreal, Canada. Another major airport is Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL / CYUL), which is 21 km from McGill University and has global and national flights from Montreal, Canada.
The university can be readily accessed by bus, vehicle, taxi or shuttle from these airports.
