British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) was established in 1964. BCIT’s focus lies in creating a job-ready workforce that would be able to contribute from day one of industry employment. The students are rigorously trained in current advanced technologies through industrial partnerships, fieldwork, and other on-campus practical sessions.

Burnaby Campus is the largest campus and houses various specialized learning spaces, labs, simulators, shops, and other main facilities. Downtown campus is home to technological education and Information Technology learning space. Aerospace Technology campus is widespread and has 20 aircrafts thus making BCIT the second-largest aerospace training provider in Canada.
Marine Campus has an indoor pool and advanced simulators allowing marine engineering students to have practical experiences in a safe environment. Annacis Island campus offers programs that deal with heavy mechanical trades.

BCIT has an Aerospace Technology Campus which covers an area of 300,000 square-foot containing 20 aircrafts that include a Boeing 737 and an airport control tower simulation technology. BCIT has a fully-equipped radio and television studio, an automated manufacturing robotics lab, an interactive fire simulation theatre, a fully operational pulp mill, and a forensics lab.
BCIT is the only institute in western Canada that offers a training program in Prosthetics and Orthotics. The other research facilities in BCIT are Centre for applied research and innovation, the Centre for the architectural ecology, and TEC Hub.
BCIT has a huge library with a large collection of books. The library also provides various facilities and resources to help and support students. BCIT also houses Ehpod which is a late-night study space that is open until three in the morning every day. BCIT has a recreation, sports, and fitness center that offers students various classes for yoga, Pilates, martial arts and Dance. The Burnaby campus has student health services that provide medical care to the BCIT students all year round.

BCIT offers on-campus, off-campus and short-stay options for students. The on-campus housing facilities are available on the Burnaby campus. The housing complex in the Burnaby campus can accommodate over 300 residents and is situated near the sports fields and other recreational facilities. The complex contains suites made of two floors and is to be shared by 12 students.
The rooms are well-furnished with all the basic amenities. A fully functional kitchen is provided to the students to cook their food. Short stay and apprenticeship are provided at the BCIT student housing on a first come first serve basis. BCIT partners with My Ideal Home Network and provides the database of available off-campus housing options for students.
On-campus facilities are not available for international students who are pursuing the course part-time.
BCIT operates a Student financial aid and awards office that provides guidance on various financial aids and awards that are available for students and eligibility requirements to obtain it. The office helps and supports the students with emergency funding, all the information related to scholarships, loans, and bursaries offered by BCIT and other external sources, and other financial plans that suit the specific requirement.
Emergency loans are repayable and are provided to students who are experiencing an unexpected delay in other loans. Emergency Bursary is a non-repayable loan provided to students based on financial status. Part-time students are offered grants based on the program that they are pursuing and financial status.
The part-time grants are offered by a federally funded program, namely The Canada Student Grant and Loan program. BCIT provides general awards like AACE Canada Scholarships for eligible students in the fields of engineering, building construction, construction management, business, computer sciences, and the disciplines that are related to cost control and grants from Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation for eligible students in avionics, aircraft maintenance, and repair programs.
Some of the other general scholarships include the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance Scholarships and Awards, BC Hydro – Power Pioneer Youth Community Service Awards and BC Technology Scholarship.

BCIT maintains a 98% placement record of the degree graduates for the year 2019. BCIT provides student employment services that support and help students to learn skills that are needed to get employed. They maintain a web-based portal called eJobs that has all the current job listings by the employers. Regular workshops are conducted by each school specific to the field of study to aid in employment. Job fairs are conducted regularly for students to connect them with employers.

BCIT has five main campuses. All the campuses are accessible by Translink. The campuses are also interconnected by the Translink and SkyTrain services.
BCIT has partnered with companies like Car2go, Evo and Zipcar to provide students with alternate ways of transportation like carpooling and share cabs. BCIT has bookstores in Burnaby and downtown campuses which provide trades safety gear, art supplies, health supplies, gifts, stationery, and snacks along with books.
