Graduate Record Examinations by ETS
Searching for your nearest GRE test center in India? Find out where they are located and what they offer, with the rules & regulations that you need to follow at the test centre.
The GRE is conducted throughout the year for admission to top universities in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and more. Since thousands of students take the exam every month, it helps to know where the GRE test centers in India are located so you can book the one nearest to you. If you live in a metro city, finding a GRE exam center near you is usually easy, but if you are in a smaller town, it becomes important to plan your travel and choose the right location in advance.
Â
In India, the GRE can be taken in two ways - at an authorised test centre or from home through the GRE at Home option. Both follow the same test content, format, and scoring.
Aspirants often search for "GRE test centers near me," and choosing the right location matters because travel time on test day can affect your performance. ETS operates GRE test centres in most major Indian cities, including:

There is a uniform set of regulations across all GRE test centers in India. Keep the following in mind on test day:
Â
Apart from test centres, ETS offers the GRE General Test at Home, which is a permanent testing option available in India. The at-home test is identical in content, format, and scoring to the centre-based test, and is monitored by a human proctor in real time.
Â
To take the GRE at Home, you need a computer that meets ETS's equipment and environment requirements, a reliable internet connection, a quiet and private room, and a valid passport for ID verification. The at-home option also includes accommodations for students with disabilities, such as screen magnification and extended time, on prior approval.
Â
Note that the GRE at Home option is available in most countries but is not offered in Mainland China and Iran. The GRE Subject Test is not available at home in India and must be taken at an authorised test centre.
Students must follow the ID and material rules laid out by ETS for every GRE test center. The requirements differ slightly between the General Test and Subject Test.
The most important requirement is a valid original passport as your primary ID. The name on your ID must exactly match the name used in your GRE registration. If there is any discrepancy, you may be asked for a supplementary ID, so it is wise to carry a second valid ID as backup. Without acceptable ID, you will not be permitted to take the test, and your seat and fee may be forfeited.
The requirements are the same as the General Test, with one addition — you should carry sharpened HB pencils and erasers, as the Subject Tests involve answering on paper.
Â
Students can take the GRE at any authorised ETS test centre across India, or from home through the GRE at Home option. Both follow the same format and scoring.
