Rather than one annual start, Herts runs a September intake (its biggest, with the full course range) and a smaller January intake, with some courses also taking a May entry. Undergraduates apply through UCAS; postgraduates apply directly to the university on a rolling basis, so a place is assessed as soon as a complete application arrives. From September 2026 the new Hertfordshire Medical School also opens, with Medicine following the separate UCAS medical timeline.

University of Hertfordshire International Students Criteria
Undergraduate academic requirement: A recognised Year 12-equivalent qualification; Indian applicants typically need around 60–70% in Class 12, with subject prerequisites for some courses.
Postgraduate requirement: A recognised bachelor's degree, usually a UK 2:1 or 2:2 (around 55–65% for Indian applicants); the MBA and some courses may require relevant work experience.
English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in each band) for most undergraduate courses, and IELTS 6.5 (minimum 5.5 in each band) for most postgraduate and research courses; PTE, TOEFL and Cambridge English are also accepted, or around 65–75% in Class 12 English. Some courses require higher.
Pathways / exemptions: Strong Class 12 English may exempt some applicants; foundation and pre-master's routes are available for those who fall short.
Supporting documents: Academic transcripts and certificates, proof of English proficiency, a personal statement, references, a CV (for postgraduate), and a passport copy; some courses require a portfolio or interview (e.g. art and design, nursing).
Application: UG applicants apply through UCAS; PG applicants apply directly to Herts or through an approved overseas representative. A credibility/pre-CAS interview applies for international students.
Student visa: Herts issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) once conditions are met and the deposit is paid; students then apply for the UK Student visa with proof of funds and any required documents (such as a TB test certificate).
