K.C Mahindra Scholarships for Postgraduate Abroad Studies

The K.C Mahindra Education Trust was started by the late Mr K.C Mahindra in the year 1953. The trust was started with the “vision to transform the lives of people in India through education by providing financial assistance and recognition to them across all age groups and income strata”. Established to promote education among Indian nationals in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Medicine and Business Management including the study of Military, Naval and Aviation Services, the Trust offers 50 loan-scholarships every year.  

What are Loan-Scholarships?

Loan-scholarships are a unique combination of scholarships and education loans available from banks. Like scholarships, these are awarded by organizations as a financial aid of a stipulated amount to students with specific terms and conditions. One additional condition is that the student will have to repay the amount and can be with or without any interest. K.C Mahindra loan-scholarship is an interest-free loan-scholarship, that is students will only need to pay back the amount that they received and nothing more. 

Eligibility Criteria  

There are certain eligibility criteria set by the trust to select only the most deserving students for postgraduate abroad studies. The students need to fulfil these criteria to be able to win the prestigious award - 

• Applicants must possess a First-Class degree or equivalent diploma of similar standard from a recognized university,
• Applicants must be Indian residents who have secured admission or have applied for admission in reputable foreign universities for courses commencing from August 2020, but not later than February 2021. 

Applications for the year 2020-2021 are open right now; the deadline is 31st March 2020. The applicants must note that students applying for undergraduate studies, conferences or seminars are not eligible for this scholarship.

K.C Mahindra Rewards

The trust awards 50 loan-scholarships to students with excellent credentials who have the potential to contribute to their country in various fields. The total value of scholarships awarded for the year 2019 was INR 2.6 crore to 62 of the best and brightest students from Indian institutes. The scholarship amount of INR 8 lakhs is awarded to top the 3 students and the rest of the successful applicants are awarded INR 4 lakhs each. The scholarship amount is also subject to any other financial aid received by the applicant. In the case, the student receives any other scholarship, the amount from K.C Mahindra Education Trust might get reduced. 
The scholarship amount has to be repaid to the Trust within 24 months of the completion of the course or 48 months of receiving the scholarship, whichever is earlier. 

Application Procedure 

The Trust gives out a newspaper announcement for the commencement of the application process for the award for the year usually in December or January. There is both an online and offline application process. 
For the Online Process - 

• Students need to fill out the application form.
• Make sure not to leave out any column blank.
• Attach the required documents and submit them.

For the Offline Process - 

• Students can download the application form from the website. 
• Fill out all the column and not leave anything blank.

Documents Required

The application requires requisite documents of the applicant, which are essential to ensure the candidature. Documents should be uploaded along with the application form. If the documents are scanned copies of the original, the applicant need not self-attest it, otherwise, it should be self-attested. The applicant should make sure that only the authentic documents are uploaded. Below is the list of documents that an applicant needs to attach - 

• A copy of admission letters - if the student is yet to receive an admission letter, they can attach a word document stating that they have applied for admission and are yet to receive an admission letter/email. 
• A signed testimonial/letter of recommendation - this should be on the letterhead of the institute or the company from one referee. 
• A short statement as to the general aptitude and interest, the type of vocation the candidate would like to pursue and his/her aspirations or ambitions in life. 
• A copy of GRE/GMAT score (if applicable)
• A copy of IELTS/TOEFL score (if applicable) 
• Evidence of course and degree certificates along with mark-sheets.
• Rank certificate, if applicable.
• A copy of 10th and 12th mark-sheet and school leaving certificate 
• Evidence of age - self-attested copy 
• Applicant’s latest CV

Selection Procedure 

For selection, a special committee is formed by the trustees of the organization to review the applicants. The applicants are analyzed based on their merit, character, aptitude, aspirations, and goals in life. Selected students are often academically gifted with zeal to achieve something good in life, change and commit for the betterment of the country. Preference is given to students who will pursue subjects which will contribute to the development of the country such as alternate sources of energy such as Solar, Wind, and Tidal energy, and Biogas technology for rural areas, Oceanography, off-shore drilling, Harvesting of ocean wealth like Sea-Bed mining, Fisheries, and exploration of other oceanic products, Water management, Agricultural research and engineering, Transportation Economics, High-Tech. Electronics and any other emerging areas and industry.  

The decision of the trustees is made on the suggestion of the Selection Committee. 
The organization does not offer any employment opportunities.

Duration

The duration of studies abroad would be a maximum of two years. If the applicant’s course duration is more than two years then a specific approval of the Trust has to be obtained by the scholar. 

Other Selection Criteria 

The scholarship is a term to some terms and conditions such as the student, once selected, cannot change the course or country. In case of any serious misconduct or if the student fails to maintain a good academic record, the scholarship will be rescinded.
