To be honest, I wanted to see the world. I didn't want to be confined to a single country. Pursuing a course abroad is the clearest way of doing it.
I looked at all the college rankings, picked out the public schools; I had a chance of getting admission and then filtered out based on course interest and affordability.

Lots of things, I have learned a lot through experience. And it's all part of studying abroad. But, I don't have regrets about not knowing something.
I used Yocket app (quite helpful), GRE prep tools (Kaplan, Manhattan, etc), the college rankings website (QS), and the University website themselves. I did mostly Google search to get common knowledge on the application process, GyanDhan came as (a lifesaver in the end).
My University experience at SUNY Stony Brook was excellent, had my share of ups and downs but by far the most enriching experience of my life.
I am currently working as a software developer in Seattle. I networked on (LinkedIn) to find a recruiter, and they got me a job.
Since I am a computer major, all I can say is it's never too early to improve your coding skills. University doesn't wait for you to get back on your game, so always be prepared. For other majors, carefully choose the University you apply, it is hard to get a job otherwise.
