MIT Application Process

Step 1: Prepare Your Application Documents

For your application, you'll need to provide specific documents:

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): MIT requires two letters of recommendation from teachers. Ideally, one should be from a math or science teacher, and the other from a humanities, social science, or language teacher. This isn't a strict rule, but it's recommended.
• Essays: You'll need to write responses to several essay questions: Describe the world you come from. How has it shaped your dreams and aspirations? (250 words) What field of study at MIT appeals to you most, and why? (100 words) Share something you do just for fun. (200–250 words) Describe a way you've contributed to your community. (200–250 words) Tell us about a significant challenge you've faced or something that didn’t go as planned. How did you handle it? (200-250 words)

Step 2: Submit Additional Documents

• Submit your Secondary School Report (SSR), including your high school transcript.
• Provide your English Language Proficiency score.
• Complete the Self-reported Coursework Form.
• Submit the February Updates & Notes Form.
• If required, submit a creative portfolio.
