The Physics major at Colorado State University starts by focusing on the basics of science and math. This helps students build a strong foundation. After that, the courses help students develop skills in analyzing and experimenting, which are important for solving physics problems in real-world situations.
The program includes classes in classical mechanics, modern physics, quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and thermal physics. Additionally, a solid liberal arts program adds depth to the education. Students are strongly encouraged to take part in undergraduate research, as it improves hands-on training, increases job opportunities, and is often required for those applying to graduate programs focused on research.
There are two concentrations available: Physics and Applied Physics. The Physics concentration is the standard choice and is best for students who want to go to graduate school in Physics or related fields. The Applied Physics concentration allows students to choose a specific area of focus and offers a variety of elective courses related to that area. This concentration is great for students who are also majoring in other technical subjects or who plan to pursue careers in health professions, especially in Medical Physics.
