Know everything about TOEFL - The A-Z guide: registration process, test fee, cancellation, eligibility, syllabus, scoring.
TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) every year. The TOEFL tests the English language competency of non-English speakers who wish to study undergraduate and graduate programs in foreign universities. The key skills that the test seeks to assess are speaking, writing, listening, and reading so as to determine if a candidate will be able to successfully complete a program of which the medium of instruction is English. Over 10,000 universities in around 150 countries accept TOEFL scores. The TOEFL scores are especially helpful for admission to universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and across Asia and Europe.

There is no generalized ideal score in TOEFL. The TOEFL exam is not a pass-fail exam. Your ideal score depends on the cut-off which is set by the university or the country where you plan to go. However, your target should be an overall score in the range of 80-100. For reading, you should aspire to get at least 22-30; for writing, 24-30; for listening, 22-30; for speaking, for listening, 26-30.
Since the exam pattern has changed, the scoring process has also seen a change. As per the new grading process, students who will take the TOEFL will get MyBestScores, which is to say, their final report will contain the best individual section scores after comparing all the tests taken in the last two years.
You should also keep in mind that your TOEFL scores are valid only for 2 years. You cannot apply with the scores for which the validity period has already expired, and you have to retake the TOEFL exam.
There are three ways to send your scores to the universities you want to apply for.
1. Order via the TOEFL Official App:
2. Order by Fax:
3. Order by Mail:
Your official score reports are sent out in 11 days after the day of the exam. However, ETS does not take responsibility for the amount of time the mail delivery takes.
The scores are available online 6 days after you have taken the test.
To check your TOEFL scores online,
Make sure you take the TOEFL exam 2-3 months before applying for universities. Plan to take the exam on a date, such that your official score reports arrive on time to be sent for the university applications.
