Scholarship by the Government of Ireland

The Government of Ireland scholarships are the scholarships awarded by the Irish government to its international students. These scholarships are fully funded to provide financial assistance to students. There are two government-funded scholarships in Ireland:

  2. list items The Government of Ireland postgraduate scholarships

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships

A prestigious scholarship for international students in Ireland is the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship. Each year, 60 places are given out among all Irish higher education institutions.

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship includes:

  • list items 10,000 euros

Eligibility

These scholarships are handled by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). Students who apply for the same academic year as the anticipated study year are given priority in the selection process by the Government of Ireland - International Education System. One must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship: 

  • list items Be an international student (not from EU/ EEA or Switzerland)
  • list items Be applying for admission to a relevant Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. program at one of the eligible universities or colleges in Ireland offering full-time programs.
  • list items Have a conditional or final admission offer from one of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) for:  The final year of a UG program One year of a taught master's program One year of a research program
  • list items The final year of a UG program
  • list items One year of a taught master's program
  • list items One year of a research program

In addition, a candidate needs to:

  • list items Demonstrate excellence (personally, professionally, creatively, academically)
  • list items Demonstrate outstanding communication skills 
  • list items Demonstrate extracurricular activity in the arts, sports, local, national, and international politics, as well as humanitarian efforts.
  • list items Possess a compelling justification for wanting to study in Ireland, demonstrating how a GOI-IES fits into their long-term objectives.

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarships

The Irish Research Council (IRC) manages the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, which is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science. All disciplines are considered for the Irish scholarship. The Irish Council awards 280 new postgraduate scholarships in Ireland universities each year. 

This program includes top Irish universities such as Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and the Royal Irish Academy. International applicants as well as citizens of Ireland are eligible. The Scholarship offers Master’s, Doctoral (Ph.D.), and post-doctoral in any discipline. The Government of Ireland's postgraduate scholarships includes

  • list items A stipend of 19000 euros per year 

Eligibility 

  • list items The award is open to all applicants from all nations, including Irish students.
